About ALFA

The Afro-Latin Fest Asia, also known as ALFA, makes its much anticipated introduction as a major event in the Asian Afro-Latin dance scene in 2017. ALFA is an international dance festival held in Malaysia which focuses on the unique fusion of African & Latin street dances which have taken the dance world by storm in recent times. The general structure of the festival is divided into three main activities: workshops by some of the world’s leading instructors during the day; stunning shows by world class performers and instructors in the evening; followed by hours of social dancing with participants and instructors from the world over to the tunes of some of the best DJs in the region. Dedicated social rooms for Latin and Afro music respectively is a key feature of this inaugural event. In line with its objective of spreading the love and awareness of Afro-Latin music and dancing, the festival places equal importance on the two distinct components of the event, Latin and Afro.

The Latin track of ALFA offers a comprehensive series of workshops on traditional and urban Latin street dances such as Salsa, Bachata and zouk with the added array of fun workshops on street Cha-Cha, Pachanga, Reggaeton, Merengue, etc. The Afro track of ALFA will focus predominantly on the dance that has taken the world by storm in recent years, kizomba. The world famous instructors at ALFA promise some high quality workshops that cover the different styles of kizomba, both traditional and urban. Other workshops under the Afro track include Semba, Afro-house, Afro Brazilian Contemporary (ABC), and much more. The workshops will cater to dancers of all levels, from beginner to advanced, there’s something for everyone.

ALFA 2017 boasts an impressive line up instructors made of some of the biggest names in the global Afro-Latin dance industry. Many of these artistes from Europe, Latin America and Australia, alongside some of Asia’s very own cream of the crop, ensure a very unique and high quality learning experience. Similarly, the festival DJs comprise some of the finest music makers who have come together from Europe, Australia and Asia who have one job and one job only: to keep the dance floors sizzling all night and leaving you wanting more at the end of the night. Many of our handpicked international artistes are making their first appearance in Asia in general and in Malaysia in particular. The artiste lineup is designed to provide the participants with the highest quality experience of an international festival in terms of workshops, shows and social dancing.

In breaking international boundaries, many of the confirmed participants of the festival are made up of not just Malaysians and dancers from the nearby Asian countries, but from US, Europe and Australia as well. ALFA 2017 makes the bold promise of a unique and memorable Afro-Latin experience which will keep you yearning more in the years to come.
